Wow. That is a wild ride. 1983 seems like it was Sammy's year (he and teammate Bobby Bonilla lit up the Carolina League). He never matched those numbers in the majors. Living 8 miles from Lynn, MA, where Sammy finished up that year in AA, I have to wonder what Sammy thought of Lynn (affectionately know as "Lynn Lynn City of Sin"). Imagine being a Pirates minor leaguer in the mid-80's. You play for the Hawaii Islanders of the Pacific Coast league, and if you are good enough, you leave the breathtaking scenery of paradise on earth for Steel City USA. Maybe being a career minor leaguer isn't so bad after all.
